The Art of Flattery

Flattery is a great art. It is inborn. It cannot be taught or acquired. It is always in the blood of a flatterer. It is the sign of a mean person. It is the art of praising a person who does not deserve it and it is done with a view to getting some favour from him or her. In short, flatterer gives undeserved praise with a hidden motive.

Flattery is often distorted praise showered upon those persons who flatter themselves as great and good people. A flatterer is generally an absolute liar. He is an expert in the art of distortion, perversion, fabrication and concoction. A flatterer polishes a lie with the thick varnish of falsehood so perfectly that it shines as much as perfect truth. Often flattery is exaggerated praise.

A successful flatterer is a great genius. He fabricates strange lies in order to puff the pride the pride of the flattered. The art of flattery consists in completely hypnotizing the person by showing him in in exaggerated terms. Just as the bees buzz around flowers and suck their juice, similarly flatterers are bees in human shape and flock round those who are in power, pelf ad position.

A flatterer is great psychologist. He knows all the fault of a person. He plays upon the weak points of his subjects so skillfully as to present an illusory image. Lovers of flattery lack self-analysis. They can be easily taken in by a man who flatters them and satisfies their ego. It has rightly been said, “A fool flatters himself, the wise man flatters the fools.”

In fact, those who have a weakness for self-love and self-importance invite flattery. All people like praise but a few like flattery. Women are great lovers of flattery. Flattery is the very food and tonic of women. Women prefer praise to pelf and power. They like men to flatter them. Most people are won by flattery.

Progress vs. Stability

There is perhaps a certain conflict always between the idea of progress and that of security and stability. The two do not fit in; the former wants change, the latter a safe unchanging haven and continuation of things as they are.  The idea of progress is modern and relatively new even in the west; the ancient and medieval civilization thought far more in terms of a golden past and of subsequent decay. In India also the past has always been glorified. The civilization that was built up here was essentially based on stability and security and from this point of view; it was far more successful than any that arose in the west. The social structure based on the caste system and joint families, served this purpose and was successful in providing social security for the group and a kind of insurance for the individual who by reason of age, infirmity,  or any other incapacity, was unable to provide for himself. Such an arrangement, while favouring the weak, hinders, to some ex...

Advertisement Role In Today

Advertisements play a very important role in the promotion of one’s business. But a business advertisement should be drafted, designed and laid out in an artistic manner that will tempt the reader to go through it even if he has no desire to buy the advertised product. In fact, it is not possible to think of the modern world without advertisement. When we speak of advertisements we generally refer to business and commerce. They have become the kingpin of the world of trade In the past, there was not much need to advertise goods. Makers were limited. The traders or manufactures had only local customers. At best they took the services of town-criers or they use handbills or posters. But, now advertising itself has become a specialized form of business. Many advertising agencies have come up. There agencies help businessmen to promote their sales.Small t...

Some Problems of Present-Day Youth

The present-day youth is facing a large number of problems-economic, social, moral as well as political. But the root cause of all these problems is the lack of purpose in his life. The modern youth is like a rudderless boat. He keeps drifting here and there with no knowledge of his destination. All his problems grow form his purposelessness.                  Our universities are producing millions of graduates and post-graduates every year. These young men and women look for jobs after completing their studies. But when they are unable to find any good job, they become restless. They feel that all their time and money spent on education has gone waste. They lose all hope of having a good life and grow desperate. Such a state leads them astray. It is nothing strange that these young men and women take to destructive activities. They fall into the hands of anti-social elements who use them as tools to achieve their own selfish ends. ...
